Kathryn Jane Woessner, 68, of Alexandria Minnesota, had last been seen on Wednesday and was the subject of an endangered missing person investigation.
The rescue happened after friends Adam Sandbeck and Mike Gravalin were riding off-road vehicles near Backus and Hackensack and came across a van in a remote clearing. They approached the vehicle and noticed what they initially thought was a body in a puddle beside it. They believed Woessner might be dead until she quietly asked for help.
According to the two men, she was nearly submerged in mud, with only part of her face visible above the surface. They pulled her free and called 911, and emergency responders located them using GPS coordinates from their off-road vehicle. Woessner says she’d fallen into the muddy pool beside her van and became trapped, describing the mud as being like quicksand. After she was located, authorities transported her to a hospital for treatment.
