A frightening incident at Zink Lake in Tulsa ended safely on Friday after bystanders stepped in to help a young child and her father. Police say a three-year-old girl slipped into the water near the wave park while standing on rocks, and her father jumped in after her when she was swept away by the current.
Witnesses Reginald Reggie and Amiya Daniels heard screams and saw the pair struggling in the water. Reggie entered the lake to help after seeing them having difficulty reaching safety, while Daniels called 911. Reggie says he worked around the strong current, took hold of the child, and brought both her and her father back toward the shore with help from another man.
The father and daughter were taken to a hospital, and Tulsa Police say they’re both expected to be okay. Reggie says he acted because human life is precious and people should help one another, while Daniels says the rescue shows that people are willing to help regardless of the circumstances. Police are taking the opportunity to remind visitors to make sure children wear life jackets near the water and to be aware of changing currents.
