On Monday morning, a witness chased down and stopped a driver who fled the scene of a crash involving a mother and her children in Huntsville, Alabama. The witness first checked on the family following the collision, then ran after the driver when he attempted to escape, holding him until police arrived. “If he did get away, that mother is now stuck with paying for her car, any medical bills or anything that is going to come from this with her and her children, so it’s very important. That’s enough that can change somebody’s life,” the witness said. “I’m a strong believer in doing right, so whether you make a mistake or not, own up to it. And the fact that you want to run, especially when there’s kids involved, it’s not okay.”
Authorities say the fleeing driver had rear-ended the other vehicle, and two members of the family were taken to the hospital with injuries. Police confirm that the witness helped detain the driver, who was later taken into custody and transported to the hospital for evaluation.
