A German tradition is making its way to the states. House Burping is when you throw open all the windows in your home to exchange stale air for clean air. You can do it as often as you like, but here are a few things to know:
- It benefits smaller spaces more than larger ones
- Make sure you have screens in the windows and that pets are secured
- It helps in preventing the build-up of cooking odors, bad smells, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, airborne irritants, viruses, bacteria and other pollutants
- It also helps in preventing moisture buildup, which otherwise can cause bathroom grout, mold and mildew, which can decrease air quality
- It helps clear out some of the chemicals in household cleaners and sprays
- Be mindful of pollen count before house burping
