List Of Family Friendly April Fool Pranks

It’s April Fool’s Day, the day for sneaky swaps and harmless pranks, and no one loves them more than kids. The key to a great one, especially for little ones, is keeping it fun, simple, and easy to clean up.

These family-friendly food pranks are easy enough for kids to do, or to pull on them, and hopefully they’ll lead to giggles, not groans.

  • Minty Oreos - Most people wouldn’t turn down an Oreo, which helps make this one work. Just scrape out the cream filling from a couple of sandwich cookies and replace it with toothpaste. It will look exactly the same, but anyone who bites into it will get a minty surprise with a bonus of fresh breath.
  • Sweet grilled cheese - The idea is to recreate the classic sandwich as a sneaky dessert. You’ll need to brown two slices of pound cake to look like the outside of the grilled cheese, then spread vanilla frosting tinted with food coloring to look like cheese in between.
  • Veggie cake - Bake up a cake of your choice and hide a piece of broccoli in a slice or two. No one will know until they take a bite and get an unexpected veggie. It won’t ruin the whole cake, just add some vitamins to those pieces.
  • Unspillable OJ - This one takes a little prep, but the kids will love it. Just heat one cup of orange juice to a simmer, then turn off the heat and add in a packet of gelatin. Stir until it dissolves, then add one more cup of OJ. Pour the juice gelatin mix into a tall glass and add a straw to really sell it. Stick it in the fridge for four to six hours, then you’ll be able to turn the glass upside down without spilling, giving adults a fright and young pranksters a good laugh.
  • Fruit snack switch - You’ll need to buy some Cadbury Eggs and grapes for this one. Carefully take the eggs out of the wrappers without tearing, then replace the eggs with grapes. Wrap them back up for a healthy surprise treat, and save the chocolate eggs to give to your prank victims, if you’re feeling nice.
  • Go all in with googly eyes - Little ones will love this prank and they can probably do it by themselves. Just stick googly eyes on items in the fridge or pantry like milk cartons, eggs, and fruit. Anyone who opens the door will be surprised to see the eyes staring back at them.
