An elderly Tennessee couple were having to work as DoorDash drivers to cover their living expenses and medications. Richard Pulley, 78, and his wife Brenda had been making deliveries for more than a year after she lost her job, with her driving and him delivering orders to customers’ doors. Last week, Pulley made a Starbucks delivery to Brittany Smith’s home in Manchester TN.
Brittany saw on her doorbell cam Richard, slowly and carefully making his way up the home’s front steps to make that delivery and it broke her heart to see this man still have to work when he obviously isn't physically able to do this. She posted the video and asked if anyone could ID this man that she called “Richard the Starbucks Delivery Man”. Her video spread and it was only a few hours later that people were posting his name as Richard Pulley, and some pointed out that his wife Brenda works along side him.
Brittney created a crowdfund to help the couple return to retirement and was thrilled last Thursday to tell Richard and Brenda that the effort had raised over $300,000 as reported by WSMV-TV.
Brittney met the couple at a local restaurant to show them the fundraiser and explain the support they’d received. Richard says it’s “really difficult to believe that there’s that many people that are that generous to try to help us,” while Brenda calls Smith “remarkable” for organizing the effort. The couple, who’ve been married for more than 56 years, are waking up today to even more good news as the the news story went viral and as of this morning are almost millionaires. As of this writing there's $927,000 in that fund!
