CA About To Run Out Of License Plates

Since 1980, the CA plates have used a format with one number followed by three letters and then three more numbers. The system is expected to run out of options by 2026. The new plates will have three numbers, three letters, and one final number. The new format should provide plenty of combinations to last for over a decade. The last license plate made with the current format will be 9ZZZ999.
