Congress Proposes A National Holiday Which I Don't Want

Like pretty much anyone who goes to school or has a job, I appreciate a day off for a holiday. But here's a day I hope will not pass Congress to become a Federal holiday.

Democrat Congressman Tom Suozzi from Long Island and Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick from Pennsylvania say the bipartisan Patriot Day Act would amend Title 5 in the U.S. Code to cement 9/11 as a federal day of recognition, ensuring Americans can commemorate one of the most significant days in American History. Suozzi says the bill to commemorate the memory of 9/11, allows people to reflect on a day of immense loss, as well join in inspired unity.

I knew several people who died on 9/11 and think this is a horrible idea. December 7th (a day which will live in infamy) was never a holiday despite the similarities. 2403 died at Pearl Harbor. 2996 died in the 3 attacks on 9/11. Both should be days Americans somberly remember what happened. Holidays are days of celebrating. Memorial Day is supposed to be a somber day of remembering those who have died in service to the United States. Look around at what's happening during the "unofficial kickoff to Summer". Turning 9/11 into a holiday will no doubt turn into the unofficial end of Summer celebration.

9/11 & 12/7 are just sad days which I hope never become holidays. What do you think?
