It's Tough Being A Vegetarian On Dating Apps

According to a new study from the University of Warsaw, including your vegetarianism in your dating profile can actually hurt your chances of success on the apps.

  • A team of researchers had 404 meat-eaters ranging in age from 18 to 82 rate profiles of people who revealed they’re following a vegetarian diet.
  • The profiles got specific, sharing they were not eating meat for either health, ethical or environmental reasons, and there was also a control group that didn’t mention their diet at all.
  • Across the board, the profiles of vegetarians were rated lower than those that didn’t include any dietary restrictions.
  • But the reason people don’t eat meat also makes a difference to their chances of getting a match.
  • Those who are meat-free for health reasons got lower ratings than those doing it for ethical or environmental reasons.
  • People also viewed men who were vegetarians as less masculine, while women who were vegetarians were seen as less feminine than meat-eating ladies.

But it’s not just carnivores who judge those with differing diets. A study from Veggly, a global vegan and vegetarian dating app, finds that 39% of vegetarians wouldn’t date a meat-eater.
