85 Year Old Man Becomes A Hero

At a trailer park near Medford, Oregon, authorities say a 42-year-old suspect, Matthew Hokulii Aranda, posed as a utility worker in an attempt to kidnap a home healthcare worker. He used a taser on the victim and attacked her in an attempt to drag her to his vehicle.

An 85 year old neighbor heard the woman scream and he came out and confronted Aranda. Aranda used the taser on the good Samaritan, That gave the woman an opportunity to run to her car. Witnesses say Aranda then began chasing her with a hunting knife.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect jumped onto the hood of the victim’s car as she drove away and injured himself after falling off. Deputies later found him hiding in a nearby bush and arrested him at the scene. Authorities are calling the elderly resident a “hero” for intervening during the incident. He asked that his name not be shared but wants to assure everyone he is fine and would happily do it all again.

Aranda has been indicted on 10 charges, including two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of first-degree attempted kidnapping, second-degree attempted kidnapping, two counts of stalking, unlawful use of a global positioning system, unlawful use of a weapon, and menacing.
