Taylor Swift's lawyers, the legal firm Venable, are fighting a subpoena dragging them into Blake Lively’s legal battle with Justin Baldoni, calling it “an abuse of the discovery process.” The subpoena requests all communications between Venable and Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and/or their attorney Michael Gottlieb.
In a new filing, Swift’s lawyers argue there’s “no reason for this subpoena other than to distract from the facts of the case.” Lively had previously accused Baldoni of harassment and orchestrating a smear campaign after she filed a complaint.
Baldoni denied the allegations and countersued Lively, and has seemingly hinted she used her friendship with Swift to pressure him. The trial is set for March next year.
