One bride in Northern Ireland started off with an idea to have a handful of people in her bridal party, but in the end, there were a lot more. When Kathryn and Jack McGowan recently tied the knot, she had 38% of their 250 guests up there as bridesmaids.
The couple initially thought they’d each have between seven and 10 friends stand beside them at the wedding, but that number grew by a lot for the bride. She ended up asking 95 people to be her bridesmaids, many of them were students at her dance school, some as young as six. Kathryn explains, “All my dancers and my friends that have been in my life for a long time, they're still very much a massive part of my life.”
Jack didn’t try to match that number, asking just eight friends to be his groomsmen for their big day, and he wasn’t shocked by the huge bridal party. “I'm used to these big events with lots and lots of our dancers, so I strangely expected nothing less,” the groom says. The bridesmaids weren’t all in matching dresses, but they coordinated with a color scheme, and while it might seem like organizing that many girls for the ceremony would be chaos, Kathryn says it all went smoothly, thanks in part to all those dancers knowing exactly how to get in formation. And she wouldn’t change a thing, saying, “I definitely made the right decision.”
