It finds that nearly 90% of Americans feel tipping is out of control. 60% think businesses are using customer tips to replace employee salaries 83% believe automatic service charges should be banned

27% of Americans think tips should continued to be taxed (like they are right now)

  • Four in 10 respondents believe tipping should be replaced by an instant employee rating system so businesses can decide how much to pay their staff based on their performance.
  • Over three-quarters (77%) think tips should only be split between employees who actually interact with customers.
  • Around half of those polled reveal they often leave a tip because of social pressure rather than good service.
