Girls Save Thanksgiving For Hundreds!

Nine-year-old Alex Fischer and her six-year-old sister Caroline, have been working hard to raise money to buy Thanksgiving meals for North Carolina families in need. This is the third years the girls have done this. In 2017 their parents suggested they create a box of Thanksgiving food to give to a family in need. But Alex said that wasn't enough and wanted to do 10 boxes. Mom Lisa explained that 10 full meals would be too expensive for the family to do. That's when Alex and Caroline opened up their first cookie and lemonade stand and they hit their 10 meal goal! In 2018 they hit 100!

This year the girls set up their stand in September and made $969 plus they raised nearly $2,000 more through a go fund me campaign. Now they will be able to donate 108 boxes filled with turkey dinner staples and 108 turkeys to go with them. They work with the Charlotte Rescue Mission, a nonprofit that holds an annual Thanksgiving food drive and identify's families in need. Lisa adds "We are hoping to recruit some help from the neighbors to pack the boxes this year, rent out a truck and deliver the food by November 23."

The girls’ mom, Lisa Fischer, says they know their efforts will help “a lot of people be able to have Thanksgiving dinner.”
