Man Who Can't Swim Jumps In Lake To Save Baby

The people of Witchita Kansas are celebrating one of their own who went to Chicago to become a stand up coming but became a hero last week. KWCH-TV reports that Lio Cundiff moved to the windy city to chase a stand up comedy dream.

Lio was taking a walk on the shore when he saw an unbelievable tragedy unfold. “I see a stroller getting blown with some lady chasing it as it goes flying into the lake with the lady screaming”. an eight-month-old baby girl was rescued from Lake Michigan after a strong gust of wind blew her stroller into the water.

Despite not being able to swim, Chicago resident Lio Cundiff jumped into the freezing water to save the child. “I wasn’t going to let that baby die,”

Louis Kapost, an American Airlines pilot, helped by using his jacket to keep Cundiff tethered while others assisted in pulling them from the water. “It’s a good thing the life ring was there,” Kapost says, noting that several bystanders helped with the rescue. Cundiff later said of Kapost, “Him throwing that jacket down helped me so much.” Cundiff also shared his hope that the baby “has a really cool future.”

The baby was taken to Lurie Children’s Hospital for observation and was initially listed in good condition.

Cundiff says, adding that the baby was “breathing and crying” when they got her out.

Lio is currently in the hospital with some heart issues after the ordeal and his friend has set up a Go Fund Me page to help with his medical bills.
