Deputy Britanie Bratcher of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina met a young girl while responding to a call that required her to protect the child. The sheriff’s office later shared that what began as a professional duty quickly became a personal connection. This was in 2023.
The unnamed girl today appears to be about 3 so I have to believe that she was simply a baby at the time. Britanie didn't feel right about turning her over to Foster care. Britanie has a daughter of her own who also loved caring for the girl. So they became Foster family for her. Then they began a long and difficult legal journey—one filled with patience, perseverance, and plenty of hurdles along the way to adopt her.
Last week that journey concluded in a courtroom when a Judge declared the adoption was finalized and they were now legally a family. The sheriff’s office shared photos of the touching moment on social media showing smiles, hugs, and kisses between Bratcher and her new daughter.
