Christopher Southerland was arrested for allegedly stealing and selling hundreds of government cell phones. The Maryland man worked as a system administrator for the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure beginning in 2020 according to his LinkedIn page. Investigators say he had around 240 cell phones shipped to his home, selling over 200 of them to a local pawn shop, and Southerland allegedly told them to sell it in parts to go undetected. The scheme was exposed when one of the phones was sold on eBay and the buyer contacted the House of Representatives Technology Desk. The case is still being investigated by the U.S. Capitol Police and the FBI.
