Saturday Afternoon around 3:30 Evansville Police received multiple 911 calls reporting a white pickup truck swerving all over Lodge Ave heading southbound and nearly hitting several cars. WTHR-TV reports that Police were dispatched to track this driver down. By the time they caught up to him he was stopped. He had been stopped by another man in a pickup truck who got in front of him and slowly stopped the drunk.
He got out and walked back there not sure what kind of a person he was about to encounter. He found an incoherent man and he was able to remove the keys to prevent any further danger.
When officers arrived, they found the driver so inebriated that after placing him in custody that he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors determined his blood-alcohol content was five times the legal limit! He was admitted to the hospital overnight for treatment.
Police later arrested him on charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and driving without ever having received a license. Authorities commended the bystander’s actions, which likely prevented serious harm.
