Hostess Celebrates Stoners Day

Sunday is Easter. But this Sunday is a different holiday for a different group of people. April 20th is "Stoner Day" because as PBS explains it started with some high school stoners in the early 70's who called themselves the 4:20 club because they would meet after school by a statue to smoke pot at 4:20.

Smuckers Targets Stoners For 4/20 With Hostess Twinkies Munchie Mobile

Hostess is taking a wild turn this 4/20 by rolling out their “Munchie Mobile” stocked with Twinkies for an East Coast road trip down “Route 420,” hitting up cannabis dispensaries along the way. Smuckers acquired Hostess in 2023 and is leaning into the stoner holiday in hopes of reviving a snack brand that's seen sweeter days, especially with snack sales slipping industry-wide. They're handing out free samples and betting big that people’s munchies will bring new love to classics like Twinkies and Ho-Hos. It’s a bold pivot from lunchbox nostalgia to lit-up marketing, but they’re banking that their most baked customers will help move some baked goods.
