The Surprising Thing Most Young People Carry With Them

A new survey of 2-thousand U.S. adults, evenly divided by gender, reveals 60% of Gen Z and 57% of millennials carry “in case of emergency” underwear with them. Only 32% of Gen X and 30% of Baby Boomers carry the spares.

  • The research also uncovers just how long people keep their old underwear in rotation, with most holding onto them for three years, on average.
  • But a tenth of those surveyed manage to wear theirs for at least six years.
  • When it comes to bras, women keep those for an average of four years, but 8% confess they have some that are well-past their prime and at least 10 years old.
  • As for the rest of their wardrobe, on average, people keep button-up shirts and blouses for three and a half years. T-shirts, pants, jeans, shorts, and skirts tend to be kept for around three years.
  • The average person owns just four pairs of “good” underwear and only three “good” bras.”
