Last July America became enthralled with a story out of Alabama when a woman named Carlee Russell called police to say she saw a toddler walking on the highway. When police arrived, her car was running but she was gone. Vanished! Rumors started that gangs were using toddlers to lure victims out of their vehicle. Turns out Carlee made the entire thing up to make her boyfriend jealous. She pled guilty last month.
ABC 13 Houston reports that Laurie Pena, a mother of six, and her husband noticed a toddler while driving on the Gulf Freeway
The couple called the authorities, and Houston police officers arrived to pick up the child, who told officers that he lived nearby but didn't know where exactly. The toddler mentioned being left with his six-year-old brother at home.
Pena expressed relief that they intervened before anything worse could happen, knowing the potential dangers the child faced. The child's father eventually showed up, and authorities confirmed the child was in good health and living in a clean, safe environment. Child Protective Services has been contacted to follow
