A pair of Colorado high school students have earned college scholarships for their exceptional skills at playing the popular bar game cornhole. Gavin Hamann and Jaxson Remmick started out casually playing at bars with their parents, eventually joining a cornhole league before going on to become two-time American Cornhole League High School National Champions.
Now Hamann and Remmick have become the first-ever 5-star Division I recruits in cornhole when they signed to play for Winthrop University in South Carolina. Winthrop head coach Dusty Thompson sees the teens as foundational players for building a strong cornhole program at the university, considering their impressive victories against top professionals.
Although cornhole isn't officially recognized by the NCAA, the scholarships awarded to Hamann and Remmick will cover part of their tuition, and they can also keep any prize money they win in ACL events. Both players are excited about the exposure their college program will receive and the additional benefits that come with their scholarships.
