Breaking Unserious Generational Curses

A woman named Taylor Drayton recently got a lot of people talking about this topic by asking people on Facebook to share the “unserious generational curse” they’re breaking.”

She got things started by revealing that she throws away stained Tupperware and opens more than one box of cereal at a time. Thousands of others took to the comments section to share their own.

  • “I allow my children to take personal days off from school. So many times I went to school sick … and I couldn’t do a thing about it.”
  • “We eat dessert whenever we want and we don’t make our son finish his meals.”
  • “I actually use the dishwasher.”
  • “My son can drink before, during and after his meal. He doesn’t have to clean his plate.”
  • “Clothes are clothes meaning - I don’t care if they get dirty. Kids are going to outgrow stuff quickly. Let them play.”
  • “We take naps … in the middle of the day … after doing nothing all day.”
  • “If I haven’t used something in more than a year, I throw it away.”
  • “If I’m eating out at a restaurant and my eyes are bigger than my stomach, it’s okay if I don’t eat it all and I don’t have to take leftovers home if I don’t want to.”
  • “I buy name brand stuff. And I eat when I’m hungry.”
  • “Boys can wear what they want. Dresses? Cool. Lip gloss? Wonderful. Nail polish? Awesome. Girls DO NOT HAVE TO WEAR SLIPS OR STOCKINGS”
  • “I didn’t kick my daughter out when she turned 18.”
  • “We buy BUNS! Not using sandwich bread for burgers, sausages & hot dogs”
  • “I have actual Tupperware instead of old margarine containers”
  • “If I’m cold best believe I’m touching that thermostat”
  • “I let my kids be grumpy/snarky in the mornings. I’m not nice when I wake up either.”
  • “I ask my kids what they want for dinner instead of expecting them to eat what I want.”
