Community Helps Elderly Woman Finally Retire

Lou Ann Antrup has been working as a dishwasher at North Main Street Diner in Auburn, Indiana, on and off for over two decades. The 79-year-old has been a widow since 03. She needed a job to help pay bills after husband unexpectedly died. Her son was trying to help her when he died of a heart attack about a decade ago. The diner’s owner, Alicia Price, says they love to have Lou Ann around, but also hate that she needs to work at her age.

When she needs extra money to make ends meet, Antrup has been able to turn to Price for extra shifts, but lately she’s been working all she possibly can and it’s still not always enough. She recently fell behind on her car payments and if she loses her vehicle, she’ll have no way to get to work.

Alicia asked Lou Ann how much she would need to never work again. Lou Ann said 15 grand. Alicia created a crowdfund for her elderly employee and friend. The fund was started with a goal of raising $16-thousand to pay her car off, and give her a little extra to enjoy. More than 300 donors have helped the crowdfund exceed its goal in a little over a week. Today it's almost at 17 grand!
