Last month, Bailey, a dog who’d recently been adopted from Animal Rescue League of El Paso (ARLEP), went missing from her new home. Bailey’s owner contacted the shelter to let them know she’d gone missing and they posted on social media in case anyone saw her around town.
The rescue got some reports from followers who’d spotted Bailey, but it turned out they wouldn’t need them. At 1:15am on January 31st, Bailey surprised the folks at ARLEP when she showed up at the shelter’s front door…and RANG THEIR DOORBELL! A staff member rushed up to the shelter and let Bailey in and put her in a run.
The next day, the shelter posted a pic of Bailey on social media and said that she’d returned on her own to them. "Bailey is now safe,” the post reads. “To all those who searched, spotted, called, hoped - we thank you.” ARLEP founder Loretta Hyde was amazed that Bailey made her way back to the shelter, especially considering her new home is 10 miles away and says, "These dogs are smarter than people give them credit for.” Bailey is now safely back home, settling in with her forever family.
