Cop Won't Give Up On Heart Attack Victim

A man collapsed while running the Silver Comet Trail near Atlanta last week. Passing runners called 911, and one began CPR.

Powder Spring Police Officer Carson Yates quickly arrived on the scene and took over the CPR. He was never able to detect a pulse or breathing from the man. After a few minutes some people in the crowd said he should stop because the runner was gone for too long. But Carson continued performing CPR for over ten minutes until paramedics arrived and took over. The man regained consciousness just before EMTs loaded him into an ambulance to take him to a nearby hospital.

The Powder Spring Police Department later took to social media to praise Yates and the other good Samaritans for their heroic efforts. “Without a doubt, if it was not for the quick actions of the citizens on the trail who immediately began taking care of this stranger, and the endurance of Officer Yates, the Silver Comet would have claimed another life,” the post reads. “Thankfully, this man will live to conquer the Silver Comet again another day. Amazing work!!!”
