Things are always a little crazier in Florida. Indian River Sheriff Deputy Dan Whittington was out on an unrelated call when he spotted a partially submerged vehicle overturned in a canal in West Vero. That's right he's responding to a different call when he sees a vehicle upside down in a canal. So he heads over to that.
Video from Whittington’s body camera shows him making his way down the embankment toward the car. An unidentified Amazon delivery driver is already at the vehicle helping a woman get out through the narrow gap in a partially opened door.
Deputies report that a caretaker and an elderly couple were in the car when it crashed. Whittington says they thankfully got to the elderly man just in time. ““I was actually kind of shocked to see the car upside down,” Whittington told WPTV. “I think I was put there along with that Amazon driver for a reason and we just there at the right time, and I’m glad we were able to get all three of them out of the car. ”If we hadn’t gotten there, he would’ve definitely drowned because he was ready to give up,” he says. Fortunately, all three people were rescued and only sustained minor injuries.
