Myrtle Beach Makes Our Good News Story Of The Day

Some homeless veterans in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, will be getting a place to call their own thanks to a new tiny home community project. The Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center is building a community of 25 tiny homes to help put a dent in veteran homelessness. Each 144 square foot tiny house will include a full bathroom, a futon bed and a mini fridge.

Randy Dorenbos, owner of MD Roofing, who are roofing the tiny homes for free, says the project will give veterans a chance at a fresh start. “I think the greatest goal here is to take these folks that are living in their cars or living in the streets with no real reason to wake up in the morning, with no purpose, and putting them into a community," Dorenbos says.

The 25 tiny homes are the beginning of a larger $3-million project which will add a common building in the community with a kitchen and laundry facilities as well as eight additional duplex homes. Project leaders expect the tiny homes to be completed by November and hope to have them occupied before winter.

The Tiny Home For Vets movement has been sweeping the world the last few years and it's awesome that some South Carolinian's are going to benefit.
