UPS Driver Colin Mitchell had just delivered a package to the home of Jeff and Rebecca Marra in Western Iowa when he noticed two dogs in the home’s swimming pool.
Something about the scene didn’t sit right with Mitchell, so he went back to the front door and knocked. "I knocked a little louder, rang the doorbell... nothing,” Michell recalls. “And then I just decided it was best to investigate." When he got closer to the pool, he could see that one dog was trying to hang on to the side of the pool and the other was trying to float on the pool cover. Mitchell removed his shoes and socks and waded into the pool, first pulling the smaller dog out and then after a little more effort getting the larger dog safely out of the pool. He then continued on his route.
The next day, the delivery driver returned to the home to check on the dogs. The Marras were shocked and grateful when they learned what had happened. They say the gate to the pool is normally locked, but somehow the dogs got in and if Mitchell hadn’t come along it could have been very bad. "If it weren't for him we wouldn't have dogs, there's no question about it," Jeff says. And Rebecca called the driver her hero for saving her fur babies.
