Washington Wizards power forward Anthony Gill played for the Gamecocks in 2011-2012.
Anthony recently returned to his elementary school in High Point, North Carolina. At a back-to-school celebration, Gill brought his sister along and together they passed out backpacks full of school supplies to every student at Parkview Village Elementary School.
Gill believes it’s important to give back to the community that helped him become the person he is today and he hopes to inspire the kids at the school to achieve great things. "Parkview gave me the foundation that I have right now. Both my sisters went here and most of my family went here,” he said. “It gave us the foundation that we grew up on and the principles that we live our life on now."
He also took the opportunity to thank school staffer Cory Dorsett, who he described as the backbone of the school. “Every day speaking into our lives, telling us that we can achieve great things,” he recalled. “He was hard on us while we were here but, that toughness that he instilled in us then, got us to where we are today.” Gill plans to make the event an annual one and will be looking for ways to encourage the students throughout the year.
