Did Dad Go Too Far With This Dating Rule For His Daughter

A dad shared on Reddit that his 14-year-old daughter is “a great kid” but notes “unfortunately, she’s interested in boys now, and they’re interested in her.” He insists he’s “fine” with her dating, and usually doesn’t have an issue, but he does have one rule – he has to meet the boy first.

“I meet the kid, they go on their way, that’s kind of my rule,” he shares, insisting he's not the type of guy to give “goofy” or “big scary dad” speeches but notes, “I wanna just meet the kid so I can put a face to a name.”

Well, his daughter recently said she had a date on Friday and he said that was fine, until she told him the boy’s “’not good’ at talking to parents and 'doesn’t like to do it,’” so he wouldn’t be coming to meet him. Of course, that didn’t sit right with dad, who told her “he could use tonight as practice for talking to parents,” but the daughter insisted he didn’t have to meet dad if he didn’t want to.

As you can imagine, the dad then told her they wouldn’t be going on their date, and she stormed out of the room, told him he wasn’t being fair and she could do what she wanted, but dad stood firm and told her to text the boy the date was off. He notes, “She started crying, sent her text, told me she hated me, went to her room, and slammed the door a few times."
