Husband & Wife Save Same Man's Life 16 Years Apart

Terri Herrington lost her husband Bryan in a tragic accident in 2004 and he was an organ donor, so five of his organs were used in 4 life-saving operations. To honor her husband, she became a living organ donor and got the chance to donate to one of the people Bryan saved.

Jeffrey Granger was one of the people saved when he received both Bryan’s pancreas and kidney in a lifesaving double organ transplant. The family of the donor and the recipient aren't supposed to meet but they did allow anonymous correspondence. After a year Terri revealed her name and told Jeffrey all about her late husband. That started a great friendship.

Then in 2019 the donated kidney started to fail. No matches were found in 2020. Jeffrey was fading fast and he posted it on his Facebook page. Terri saw it and asked her doctor to test her and of course she was a match.

The only hesitancy she joked was whether she wanted to save a Florida Gators fan because she loves Florida State.

“You never know the life you’re going to save when you become an organ donor. You could be saving the life of someone who could eventually cure an incurable disease or someone that is going to grow up and be the President of the United States," says Herrington. “But changing the story to someone’s life and changing that ending is helping them and helping their families.”

Here's Jeffrey with Terri.
