Pre Covid only 10% of Americans said they washed their hands for 20 seconds more than 5 times per day which is what the CDC recommends for typical daily living. A survey in May of 2020 found a complete reversal! 90% were washing five or more times per day. Now a year after COVID started some new poll results.
We're down to 80% washing their hands five or more times. The average American now washes their hands 9 times a day with 18% of Americans saying they wash their hands more than 15 times a day!
As UCLA points out in their study, the people who wash their hands too much, dry out their skin which makes them more susceptible to COVID and other viruses.
