A 77 year old Fort Myers, Florida, woman became a hero while driving on Interstate 75 and witnessing an accident. Rebecca Dabney watched in horror as a car flipped and immediately pulled over to help the driver. She had the skills to know what to do in the emergency because she is a retired California police officer who moved to Florida 13 years ago. She tells WINK news "I’ve seen a lot of car fires over the years so I knew that the car was going to go up into flames pretty quickly. So I grabbed my micro tech [knife] and cut the seatbelt, and me and a few of the bystanders were able to pull him out and get him to safety,”
They were able to get him out safely just in time before the car was engulfed in flames.
Rebecca says, “Somebody was looking out for him, for sure. We got about maybe 30 to 40 feet away and the car just went up in flames, completely engulfed. We actually had to move them again because it was so hot.”
