34 million Americans have diabetes. Another 88 million have pre diabetes.
The vast majority of them are prescribed something called metformin hydrochloride. Now the US Food and Drug Administration announced that one of the distributers has been recalled because it contains excess levels of N-Nitrosodimethylamine, which is considered a probable human carcinogen and is linked to cancer.
Marksans Pharma Limited has been marketing their drug as “extended-release tablets” under the brand name Time-Cap Labs, Inc.
This is for the Time-Cap Labs metformin tablets between 500 mg and 750 mg.
The FDA warns “It could be dangerous for patients with type 2 diabetes to stop taking their metformin without first talking to their health care professional.”
