The NY Post reports this incredible tale! Ronald Berry was fired from the NY Mass Transit Dept in 2013. He stopped coming to work but kept showing up on payday to collect his paychecks.
He kept coming back every payday for the last six years1 He ended up collecting over $250,000 in checks. But, all good things must come to an end and when he went to collect his check last week, the police arrested him.
Ronald claims he didn't think he was doing anything wrong. He says he went on sick leave for high blood pressure and asthma and he thought the paychecks were legit. "I never got a call that I was fired"!
When the Post reporter showed Ronald the termination paperwork which he had signed in 2013 he responded "How the f--- am I still getting checks then"? Strong point Ronald!
He continued “If I’m terminated why am I getting letters from them? The last one I got was at the end of last month and I believe it was for asbestos training or track training. Now if they would’ve sent me a termination letter, f- -k going to pick a check up…I’m terminated already, let me file for unemployment.”
You might of lost me there Ronald. Paychecks are always more than unemployment and unemployment doesn't last 6 years.
The NYPD Saturday confirmed Berry was arrested Thursday and charged with criminal trespassing after “being observed inside an employee-only NYC transit facility.”
The MTA is investigating.
