The source of a massive U.S. intelligence leak to Wikileaks will go free today.
Army soldier Chelsea Manning leaked thousands of classified documents to WikiLeaks in 2010 and was convicted of the crimes in 2013. Former President Obama commuted most of Manning's 35-year sentence just before leaving office in January. Manning served 7 years and was scheduled for release in 2045.
The 29-year-old, who is transgender and was known as Bradley Manning, will actually be on active duty once she's freed. That's because her conviction is still under appeal. Because she's still on active duty, she'll be eligible for healthcare and other benefits, but will not receive a salary. Supporters have raised $135,000 for Manning.
Manning plans on living in Maryland.
