Wear contact lenses? Do this and you risk going blind.

Well, this is concerning for me and I bet others that shower and swim with their contact lenses in their eyes.

Swimming or showering while wearing contacts puts you at risk of blindness. Acanthamoeba keratitis is an amoeba found in water. This amoeba can burrow into the eyeball causing total vision loss in just a few weeks.

Contact lenses can cause small abrasions in the eye making it easier for the amoeba to attach when the eye comes into contact with water.

This is also the reason you never rinse your lenses with tap water...the burrowing bugs live in there also.
