WATCH: Hero Sprints Across Thin Ice to Pull Man From Freezing Water

A young man rushed across thin, unstable ice on Evergreen Lake in Colorado to rescue another man who had fallen through, an incident that unfolded just as the nearby Lake Plunge charity event was ending. Witnesses said the rescuer sprinted toward the opening in the ice, then crawled to the edge and pulled the victim from the frigid water.

Emergency crews treated the man who fell in, though he declined hospital transport, and officials later drove the anonymous rescuer back to his car after he left without giving his name. The charity plunge—typically held on New Year’s Day but delayed this year due to unusually warm weather and thin ice—had drawn about 100 participants in costumes, underscoring how unseasonable conditions contributed to the dangerous situation on the lake.
