A small stray dog named Blackie helped save a litter of abandoned kittens along the river in Downtown El Paso. After spending time near Border Patrol agents who often looked out for him, Blackie carried a single kitten up from the riverbed as if asking the agents for help.
The agents contacted Pawsitive Rescuers, whose president, Karen Washington, explained that more kittens were likely nearby. One agent searched the riverbank and located the rest of the litter, allowing the rescue team to gather all the kittens safely.
With the agents’ assistance, rescuers later captured Blackie as well. He has since received a long-overdue bath, initial vaccinations, and is beginning the journey toward finding a permanent home.
