Four bystanders jumped into the water behind Bubba’s Restaurant in Virginia Beach to save a woman trapped in a sinking SUV after a crash Friday afternoon.
Navy aviation rescue swimmer Jeremy Way was among them, urging the woman to unlock the doors as the vehicle went under. One rescuer climbed onto the SUV and broke inside to reach her just as it fully submerged.
The woman was eventually pulled out using rescue‑swimmer techniques. Police said she and two of the rescuers were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
