He Got A Job At McDonald's When He Became A US Citizen. Now He Runs It

Pargan “Balbir” Singh, moved from India to Saugus, Massachusetts in 1985 as he began his journey towards becoming a citizen. He landed a job at McDonald's and compared it to Eddie Murphy's character in Coming To America. “I worked in the kitchen, helping in the back, taking out the trash, tried to do everything step by step after about a year I came in the front. By then my English was pretty good so I could work the register. They promoted me after three or four months later to become a swing manager. Then a year or so later I became the store Manager. Then a few years later Mr. Wallin promoted to his area manager for all of his McDonald's. Mr. Wallin passed away a few years ago and his daughter Lindsay Wallin is now in charge.

To celebrate Balbir's 40th anniversary with the company Linsey had a big celebration. Balbir was picked up in a limo and brought to one of the restaurants. There the staff cheered for him as he entered the lobby that had been transformed into a party spot with balloons, sparkles and photos of Balbir through the years. Ronald and Grimace were there to give him high fives and then Lindsay made a speech about how important Balbir had been to her father and how his loyalty had helped grow the company.

The ceremony ended when Lindsay surprised him further with a $40,000 bonus to celebrate his 40th anniversary.

Balbir says asking his wife to marry him was his best decision followed closely by becoming a U.S. citizen and working for the Wallin's his entire life. "I don't know how a man could be any more blessed than myself".
