These are not individuals who don't want to get up early to go shopping nor are they asking you to not shop because they're upset about the commercialization of Christmas. USA Today reports that the groups; the Money Out of Politics Movement, Blackout the System, The People’s Sick Day, American Opposition and The Progressive Network don't even want Americans to work between November 25th and December 2nd. They also don't want you to eat out or travel. Basically sit in your house for a week.
These groups have all joined forces to request no one spend any money on Black Friday through Cyber Monday to protest economic inequality in the U.S. The groups are also calling on shoppers to cancel digital subscriptions during the boycott. They do say it's OK to shop Small Business Saturday which is November 26th but only at small stores and pay cash. Blackout The System’s founder says "Congress serves donors, not the American people, and democratic norms are being dismantled in front of our eyes, with corporate backing. This campaign is about showing them where the power truly lies, with the people."
