Family Wants To Feed Truckers On Thanksgiving

Kandi Roy in Grand Junction, Colorado learned that first time in her marriage her truck driver husband had to be on the road for Thanksgiving.

she and her children decided instead. KKCO-TV reports that Kandi asked permission from the local Love’s Truck Stop, to bring holiday meals to the truck stop and serve full turkey dinners with handwritten thank-you cards.

"I have a GoFundMe set up to try to help raise some funds to come up with some of the last-minute items we’re going to need. We’re also accepting donations for the food that we’re going to need; we’re going to need turkeys, mashed potatoes, stuffing, all the Thanksgiving fixings, and so we’re just accepting donations. We’re going to prepare all the meals the weekend before up to the day before and then finish preparing and packaging them on the day of Thanksgiving and delivering them out there”

Their goal is to serve at least 200 truckers passing through the area or parked along nearby routes. Kandi says they want to show appreciation for the work truckers do, noting that we all rely on them for everyday supplies and goods. The gesture is meant to help drivers feel seen and valued during a time when many are away from home.

Kandi says that truckers really do keep America running and they make big sacrifices in their personal lives to do that. We really need to do a better job of thanking the men & women who keep our shelves stocked and I hope maybe our little attempt here will inspire folks throughout this great land of ours to do something similar for the truckers.
