Sunday night about 8:15 Salisbury, North Carolina, responded to a disturbance at the Cookout restaurant. WCCB-TV reports that the officer was attacked by a man with a knife. The suspect identified as 44 year old Jamie Lynne Hunt cut the officers hand and when the officer fell an unnamed bystander jumped in to save his life. Jamie Hunt was trying to kill them both and they all received numerous injuries while wrestling him. A second officer arrived and tazed Hunt to end the fracas. Both the officer and unnamed man had to be transported to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center for treatment.
Salisbury Police Chief PJ Smith says “I am thankful for the citizen who stepped in to help. His act of bravery likely saved our officer’s life. We are relieved that both our officer and this Good Samaritan are recovering”
