When Mootilda the cow was waiting in line at a slaughterhouse in San Tan Valley, Arizona it appears she figured out what was going down.
Details are sketchy but somehow she escaped. Video footage of Mootilda running down the road quickly became a viral sensation and caught the attention of Aimee Takaha, founder of Aimee’s Farm Animal Sanctuary. She followed the story and saw that Mootilda was captured 5 hours after her break for freedom. Recognizing Mootilda’s was really determined to escape her fate at the slaughterhouse, but would now need some help. Aimee decided she wanted to rescue the animal.
After contacting the slaughterhouse and explaining that she would like to transport Mootilda to her animal sanctuary, the owners said they needed the $25-hundred Mootilda would bring them at market. They had planned on processing her that night but gave Aimee 24 hours to get the money. Aimee posted on her social media mage about Mootilda and within 12 hours 60 donors had raised the funds!
Now settled at Aimee’s Farm Animal Sanctuary, Mootilda is enjoying her life among the other rescued animals. Takaha describes the sanctuary as a place where animals with differences or disabilities are celebrated, and says Mootilda is now known as the “community cow,” loved and supported by the people who came together to save her.
