Daniel Drouin of Alberton, Prince Edward Island, lost his family’s home to a fire. The insurance payment was far less than the cost to rebuild. He was devastated. He is a single parent and since the fire his 2 kids have been staying at his parents hundreds of miles away while he sleeps in his truck so he can go to his job on the island.
He saw no way out of his problem and so he dropped to his knees to pray for help. While he was praying he was interrupted by his cell phone ringing. On the other end was Myron Yates.
Myron is executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters Prince Edward Island and was calling to tell Daniel he had won their raffle. Daniel didn't even remember buying a raffle ticket. He had bought it back in June. The fund raiser had gone on all Summer and they had just completed it and Daniel had won. "Well what did I win" asked Daniel. "You have a choice" explained Myron "you can have either $150,000 cash or a prefab home". Daniel was stunned. "Did you say I can have a new house"?
On Monday, Drouin visited his new fully finished house at the offices of Big Brothers Big Sisters in Charlottetown while he was there taking care of the paperwork. He says the win means a “fresh start” for his family and will allow him to reunite with his kids. His final thought, "God loves us. He knows what we need and is eager to meet our needs".
