Conenose bugs known as the “kissing bug,” are spreading a disease in the US called Chagas. Untreated, Chagas disease can cause serious heart and digestive problems. The kissing bug likes to bite people in their face. When it does that it sucks out blood like a mosquito, but unlike a mosquito that injects you with something that simply makes you itchy (unless that bug is carrying a disease) the kissing bug puts a parasite in you.
According to the Mayo clinic many people don't have any symptoms and if they do they are often very mild. The chronic phase of Chagas disease may appear 10 to 20 years and may lead to death! Yes these bugs are now up from central America and living in SC. On the other coast in LA County 45,000 people are currently being treated.
The CDC has recommended that Chagas disease be classified as "endemic” in the U.S.
