According to a poll of 2-thousand American college football enthusiasts, evenly divided by NCAA Division I conference, more than a third (35%) admit they’d choose to go to their team’s biggest rivalry game of the year instead of their friend’s wedding, if the events were on the same day.
- That number jumps to nearly half for Conference USA fans, as 47% of them would pick the game over their buddy’s wedding day.
- The survey finds that the average college football fan who’s ever gone to a game makes it to about four in person every year.
- Conference USA fans go above and beyond, showing up at the stadium for an average of 5.3 games per season. American Athletic Conference fans are also dedicated, attending five per season, on average, while Mid-American Conference fans go to an average of 4.5 a season.
- The average fan who usually goes to at least one game a year travels nearly 1,000 miles (991) per year to see their favorite team play, but fans of the American Athletic Conference travel the farthest - 1,125 miles per year, on average.
- But the fans most likely to watch every single one of their team’s games in a season - either in person or on TV - are SEC fans (37%).
- More than half (52%) of all fans polled say they’re superstitious about their team and 46% admit they have a ritual they do to boost their team’s chance of winning.
Extreme things fans have done to see their favorite college football team play in person:
