New Survey Reveals How Obsessed Americans Are With Football

According to the Savanta survey of 1,000 U.S. adults:

  • 71% of Americans admit to skipping, rescheduling, or turning down plans in order to watch a football game.
  • Even when a game isn’t on, half of those with full-time jobs say football affects their productivity at work.
  • Four in 10 (41%) now mainly watch football on streaming services, but 56% are frustrated by NFL games being exclusive to certain streaming platforms.
  • More than half (55%) spend less than $250 a season on football-related expenses, like tickets, merch, streaming, food, travel, and fantasy leagues. Another 27% spend $500 or more and 14% splurge on at least $1,000 per season.
  • That’s nothing compared to the 7% who spend over $25-hundred and the 3% who shell out more than $5-thousand a season on football.
  • But not everyone is happy about the costs, as 64% say NFL games aren’t affordable anymore.
  • More than two-thirds (69%) say they’re now cutting back on attending games because of rising ticket, travel, and concession costs.
  • Lots of fans enjoy both pro and college football, but 60% say they prefer the NFL and only 20% prefer college games.
  • When it comes to safety, 36% believe the NFL has made some major safety improvements, but 11% still say the sport is too dangerous.
  • And only a third (34%) would encourage their kids to play football.
